Living in Far North #Queensland often bamboozles me with how It’s such a wild experience that when I’m out for a walk on the beach, or anywhere near salt water in nature, I have to genuinely be alert for a giant man-eating reptile that can and will eat me or my dog if it gets a chance. It’s up to me and my awareness of it to not give it that chance. It’s not a strong fear that I carry, but an understanding that I am weaker than this creature. It is a predator and I am, in relation to it: prey. Growing up in Melbourne, that’s just never a concern. We’re at the top of the food chain, so to not be at the top, and hold a respect and appreciation for the creature that is; is a humbling and fascinating relationship to have with nature. I really enjoy the way it makes me feel that I am part of the eco-system, and not seperate from it. So I sculpted Carlos as a lil homage to the king of the tropics. May his reign be long and prosperous
Hand-sculpted in Cairns by Elena Steere using renewable, locally-sourced Far North Queensland clay.
This piece is ONE OF A KIND, and will never have duplicates. However, if you would like something similar; commissions are always welcome :)
